The Department of Tamil at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science was established to teach Tamil language under Part II to the students of degree courses offered in this college.

The Tamil Department had also grown along with the growth of the college. Many articles, poetries, stories and drawing born out of the creative talents of the students much interested in Tamil, found place in manuscript like ‘KURUTHU’ which is published every year by the Department.
