The Department of English at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science is one of the oldest Departments of the college. The Department aims to teach English language under Part I to the students of all degree courses offered in this college. It further provides students with solid fundamentals in writing, reading and literary knowledge so as to prepare our graduates for a wide range of occupations.

Special attention is given for Tamil medium students to bridge the gap. To enhance communication skills, activities such as role plays, essay writing etc. are conducted regularly. Special and personal attention is given to slow learners. To unearth the hidden talent of students, they are encouraged to participate in intercollegiate competitions held at different colleges.
