The journey of the Department of Computer Science at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science began in the year 2001 during the inception of the college. Success is about dedication. You may not be where you want to be or do what you want to do when you’re on the journey. But you’ve got to be willing to have vision and foresight that leads you to an incredible end. From beginning, the Department has been fortunate to have such a dedicated batch of students and resourceful faculty team.Today the Department functions with 5 competent regular Assistant Professors, over 90 full-time under-graduate students and appropriate support staff. The Department has an excellent computer lab with 40 latest systems connected through LAN with internet facility for all students and staff of the Department. The lab is kept open after college hours and on Saturdays for the welfare of the slow learners in the Department and for the other interested students to gain more knowledge in computers.
We feel proud that many of our students are placed in renowned software companies. Few of our students also purse higher education.

The computer lab is the highlight of the college. The primary goals of the computer labs and classrooms is to provide assistance to students that will enhance their chances of succeeding in technology-based classroom assignments and to provide access to equipment that will support the needs of instruction where we ensure creative learning. The computer lab is housed in a spacious Air-Conditioned room. We have 40 multimedia systems with latest configuration. Power backup is enabled through UPS. Internet facility is also provided to every system. The Department has all original software required to support the curriculum.
TECHNO CLAN is the Computer Science Student’s Association. The Computer Science Department was the first in this college to start an Association. It was formally inaugurated on 9th October, 2004 by Prof. V. Prithiviraj, Director, IT Dept., Govt of Puducherry. From then on, Techno Clan has been organizing a variety of competitions, seminars and workshops for the benefit of the students every year. In the year 2013, the Association was inaugurated by our beloved and dynamic Director, Higher and Technical Education and member secretary PONSHE, Thiru. T. Karikalan.

Apart from curricular activities, students are also encouraged to attend and participate in various Inter-collegiate competitions, Seminars and Workshops. Many students have won prizes in various competitions and paper presentations in programmes organized by various colleges in and around Puducherry.
Parent Teacher meet is conducted at regular intervals. Parents are called after the semester exam results are announced to discuss about the performance of the candidate. The faculty, speak to the parents not only about the ward’s performance in the class, but also about shaping his/her career, the demands of the market and policy of the college. Parents are also free to approach the Faculty after college hours to discuss about their wards.
We offer remedial classes to help students deal with specific academic weaknesses during the semester say in the evenings, on weekends or during periods of preparatory leave. During these classes, additional problems are solved and students are allowed to interact with each other in addition to a faculty member to enhance collaborative learning. This tutorial system also provides extra classes, extra notes and extra guidance to students.
The Department of Computer Science is the first Department in this college to start the Alumni association. Alumni meets are organized by the Department periodically, when the alumni of the Department get together to share their joy and experiences. When the alumni share their career developments, it gives lot of insight and enthusiasm for the junior students which enables them to shape their career. Further, some alumni have come forward to financially support economically weak and technically aspiring students every year.
